Question

I am looking for advice. I use a pink loose powder with shimmer and a little glitter, but the brand I regularly use has been discontinued and is very hard to find. I am thinking of mixing it myself. Could you please recommend what types of color, shimmer, or glitter can be mixed into loose powder to look natural when applied to the skin? Please advise.

Answer

DIY Loose Powder with Pink Tint, Shimmer, and Glitter

To create your own loose powder with a natural pink tint, shimmer, and a touch of glitter, you can use cosmetic-grade Mica Powder. Mica powders come in various sizes and colors, allowing you to achieve the desired effect.

Recommended Ingredients:

  1. For Natural Pink Tint and Shimmer:

    • Luster Pink Mica (size A): A light pink mica powder with a subtle silvery sheen. The particle size (approx. 30 microns) is suitable for loose powders or foundations, providing color and a natural-looking shimmer without being overly shiny.
    • Alternative: Pretty Pink Mica (size A): A brighter reddish-pink mica powder with the same particle size, giving a slightly more pronounced pink color.
  2. For a Touch of Glitter:

    • Red Pink Super Sparkle Mica (Size D): A large particle mica (Size D) that provides noticeable sparkle. Use a very small amount to add a subtle glittering effect.
    • Alternative: White Glitter Mica (size C): A white large particle mica (Size C) that also provides sparkle. Can be used for a silver glitter effect.

Basic Mixing Method:

Start with your main loose powder base (such as Talc, Rice Powder, or Silica Powder). Gradually add the pink Mica powder (like Luster Pink Mica or Pretty Pink Mica) little by little, mixing thoroughly until you achieve the desired light pink shade. Then, carefully add a very small amount of the glitter Mica (like Red Pink Super Sparkle Mica or White Glitter Mica), mixing to ensure even distribution.

Usage Rate:

The proportion of pigments and mica powders in loose powder varies depending on the desired color intensity and shimmer level. Generally, for mineral makeup, the usage rate for color/mica powders can be around 1-5% of the total weight. It is best to start with a small amount and gradually add more until you achieve the desired color and sparkle.
