Answer
DIY Facial Treatment Mask Formulation
This formulation aims to replicate the key components of the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask based on the provided ingredient list and staff suggestions.
Ingredients:
- Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (Pitera): 80-90% (Use either Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (aka Pitera) or Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (Glycol Free, Glycerin Free, Preservative Free))
- Water: Remaining percentage to reach 100% total liquid phase
- Butylene Glycol: 10%
- Xanthan Gum: 1% (Use Xanthan Gum (clear gel type, smooth texture))
- Disodium EDTA: 0.1%
- Preservative System: 0.2-1% (e.g., Sodium Salicylate + co-preservative)
Formulation Steps:
- In your main beaker, combine the Water and Disodium EDTA. Stir until the Disodium EDTA is fully dissolved.
- Slowly add the Xanthan Gum to the water phase while stirring vigorously or using a high-speed mixer to prevent clumping. Continue mixing until a clear, smooth gel is formed.
- In a separate container, mix the Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate product with the Butylene Glycol and your chosen preservative system (e.g., Sodium Salicylate and a co-preservative).
- Once the gel base (Step 2) has cooled to below 40°C, slowly add the liquid mixture from Step 3 to the gel base while stirring gently until fully combined and uniform.
- Adjust pH if necessary (typically Pitera products have a pH between 4-7).
- Pour the finished mask essence onto compressed mask sheets or store in a suitable container for use with dry mask sheets.
Note: The exact percentage of Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate within the liquid phase (Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate + Water + Preservatives) will determine the final concentration. Using a higher percentage of the Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate product will result in a more concentrated mask essence. Always ensure proper preservation for safety and shelf life. Sodium Salicylate is a water-soluble preservative but is often used in combination with other preservatives for broad-spectrum protection.
