Question

I want to make a toner (essence water) for personal use. My skin is sensitive, dehydrated, and acne-prone. Can I use the following ingredients:

  • Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate
  • PiteraEx (Saccharomyces Lysate Extract)
  • Rose Water (Rosa Damascena)

If so, what should be the usage ratio?

Please advise.

Answer

DIY Toner for Sensitive, Dehydrated, Acne-Prone Skin

You can definitely mix Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract (PiteraEx / Dermal Respiratory Factor), and Rose Water (Rosa Damascena) to create a toner suitable for your sensitive, dehydrated, acne-prone skin.

  • Rose Water (Rosa Damascena): This acts as a soothing base for your toner. It has hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and mild antiseptic properties, which are beneficial for sensitive and acne-prone skin.
  • Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate: Known for its ability to hydrate, improve skin barrier function, and enhance skin clarity. It helps with dehydration and overall skin health. There are two types available: the regular one (contains Butylene Glycol) and a Glycol Free, Glycerin Free, Preservative Free version. For sensitive skin, the Glycol Free version is often preferred. It can be used at high concentrations, but for a toner, 10-20% is a common effective range without feeling too heavy.
  • Saccharomyces Lysate Extract (Dermal Respiratory Factor): This ingredient works similarly to Galactomyces but is more concentrated. It helps revitalize the skin and supports cellular respiration. A small amount is very effective; the recommended usage rate is typically around 1%.

Here is a suggested starting formulation ratio for your toner:

  • Rose Water (Rosa Damascena): 79%
  • Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (Glycol Free): 20%
  • Dermal Respiratory Factor (Saccharomyces Lysate Extract): 1%

Mixing Instructions:
Combine all ingredients and stir gently until fully mixed. Ensure the temperature is below 40°C when adding the active ingredients.

Storage:
It is recommended to store the finished toner in the refrigerator to maintain the stability and efficacy of the fermented ingredients and rose water.

This formulation combines hydrating, soothing, and revitalizing ingredients that should be well-suited for your skin concerns. Always patch test any new formulation before applying it to your entire face.
