Question

I have a formula for a facial water spray/toner that includes Licorice Extract and Tomato Extract. I would like to know if this formula is suitable for spray application.

If it is not suitable, what adjustments or alternative ingredients would you recommend to make it suitable for a facial spray, improve skin benefits, and ensure good spray performance?

Answer

Regarding your facial water spray and toner formulation, the staff has reviewed your proposed ingredients and formula.

The staff advises that your current formula is not suitable for a facial spray application primarily because of the inclusion of Licorice Extract and Tomato Extract. These ingredients have a relatively dark color, which could potentially stain clothing if sprayed.

If you intend to use the product as a spray, it is recommended to remove these two ingredients from the formula.

The staff also suggested adding the following ingredients to enhance the formula for a facial spray/toner:

  • Safe-B3 (Vitamin B3) (3%): Helps strengthen the skin.
  • Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) (1%): Provides skin hydration.
  • Silicone Quick-Cond (PEG-12 Dimethicone) (1%): Acts as a skin conditioning agent and helps the spray droplets adhere better to the skin.

This revised approach would make the formula more suitable for a spray application while still providing moisturizing and skin-benefiting properties.
