Formula adjustment for allergy and stability

Question

I have a formula for a cream and have a history of allergy to Activated Resorcinol™ (4-butyl Resorcinol). My formula includes Sym-White™ (Phenylethyl Resorcinol), Water-Capsule™ (Water-in-Oil Cream) at 3%, and Zinc Oxide (which is part of the oil phase, totaling more than 20% in the formula). Could you please review my formula and advise, especially regarding the potential allergy risk with Sym-White™ given my history, and the recommended percentage for Water-Capsule™?

Answer

Based on the formula and your skin condition, especially the history of allergy to Activated Resorcinol (4-butyl Resorcinol), here is the feedback:

  • Regarding allergy: Since you have a history of allergy to Activated Resorcinol, it is recommended to avoid Sym-White™ (Phenylethyl Resorcinol) as it has a similar chemical structure and could potentially cause a similar allergic reaction.
  • Suggested replacement: Consider replacing Sym-White™ with Active Resveratrol. Resveratrol can help with skin whitening, strengthens the skin, acts as an antioxidant, and has a very low chance of causing allergies.
  • Emulsifier adjustment: Please increase the concentration of Water-Capsule™ (Water-in-Oil Cream) from 3% to 4%. This is because the oil phase in your formula (including Zinc Oxide) is more than 20%, and increasing the emulsifier will help stabilize the emulsion.
  • Other ingredients: The remaining ingredients and their concentrations are considered appropriate for your needs.
  • Note on Water-Capsule™: If you have not used Water-Capsule™ before, please study the usage instructions and steps carefully before incorporating it into your formula.
