Traditional soap bars have a high pH that can be irritating and causes most forms of Vitamin C, including L-Ascorbic Acid, to degrade quickly.

Suitable Vitamin C Forms for a Syndet Bar

While L-Ascorbic Acid is not stable in a soap environment, several Vitamin C derivatives are more stable and can be used in a Syndet bar formulation:

• Ethyl Ascorbic Acid: This water-soluble derivative is highly stable and effective for brightening and anti-aging. It is compatible with a pH range of 3.5-6.0, which works well with Syndet bases. Recommended usage rate is 1-10% (typically 3%). If using this, include a chelating agent like Disodium EDTA (around 0.2%) to help stability.
• Perfect-C™ (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate): This oil-soluble derivative is very stable and penetrates the skin effectively. It offers excellent whitening, anti-aging, and collagen-boosting properties. It is stable at a pH of 5.0-5.5, making it ideal for a skin-pH-friendly Syndet bar. Recommended usage rate is 1-10% (5% is often recommended for efficacy).

Other forms like Ascorbyl Glucoside, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate are less ideal as they require higher pH ranges that are not typical for gentle Syndet bars.

Formulation Concept

To create your gentle, anti-aging, whitening bar, you would typically:

1. Start with a Syndet Bar base.
2. Incorporate your chosen stable Vitamin C derivative (Ethyl Ascorbic Acid or Perfect-C™) at the recommended usage rate.
