Formulating a Lightweight Silicone-Based Emulsion with Warp Cream Maker™
Question
I am developing a cosmetic formula and have the following questions:
1. Are all the ingredients compatible? The reason for using a large amount of Silicone is to achieve a lightweight formula while being able to use a variety of ingredients. I also want to try using Warp Cream Maker™ for the first time. Is the ratio of 7% Warp Cream Maker™ sufficient?
2. Hexamethyldisiloxane is stated to evaporate very quickly, but I want to use it for the reason of experimentation and making it for personal use, aiming for the most lightweight texture possible. Therefore, what is the appropriate blending time, or how can I know if the formula is fully combined and does not affect the evaporation of Silicone (Hexamethyldisiloxane)?
Answer
Regarding your formulation:
- Compatibility and Warp Cream Maker™: Based on the staff's reply, your formula has a relatively low water content compared to the oil/silicone phase. While Warp Cream Maker™ can emulsify silicones and water well, a very high oil load can make emulsification more difficult. The staff recommends reducing the amount of oil (specifically suggesting removing Squalane) and increasing the water phase to improve compatibility and emulsification stability. The staff confirms that 7% Warp Cream Maker™ is sufficient if the water/oil ratio is adjusted. Machine blending is required, manual stirring is not sufficient.
- Blending Time and Hexamethyldisiloxane: The staff advises that blending for approximately 3-5 minutes with a machine should be sufficient for the formula to emulsify properly. This short blending time, combined with the fact that heat is not required for this formulation, means it should not significantly affect the evaporation of Hexamethyldisiloxane. You will know the formula is fully combined when it forms a stable, homogeneous mixture without separation.
