Formulating Cream with Soft Cream Maker and Electrolytes
Question
When formulating a cream containing Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, and Sodium PCA using Soft Cream Maker, can these ingredients be mixed directly into the water phase? Or should they be mixed in the final step, similar to using Light Cream Maker?
Answer
Formulating with Soft Cream Maker, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, and Sodium PCA
When formulating a cream using Soft Cream Maker, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, and Sodium PCA, you can mix the water-soluble ingredients (Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, and Sodium PCA) directly into the water phase.
Soft Cream Maker requires heating and is typically mixed into the oil phase. The heated water phase, containing your water-soluble ingredients, is then added to the hot oil phase with the Soft Cream Maker, and the mixture is stirred continuously until it cools and the cream forms.
This differs from Light Cream Maker, which is sensitive to electrolytes (such as Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, and Sodium PCA) and requires these ingredients to be added gradually at the end of the formulation process to maintain the cream's viscosity.
