Formulation Feedback: Cream and Water-in-Silicone Serum

Question

I have two formulations I'd like feedback on:

  1. Cream Formulation:

    • The oil phase is approximately 20%.
    • I plan to use Light Cream Maker.
    • The target pH is 5.5.
    • Can this formula be made, are the ingredients compatible, and is Light Cream Maker suitable for this oil percentage? How can I adjust the pH to 5.5?
  2. Serum Formulation:

    • This formula uses SiliSolve and Pro Polymer (Gel Maker) at 0.5%.
    • The target pH is 5.5.
    • Can this formula be mixed? Is Pro Polymer at 0.5% sufficient or helpful in creating the serum texture easily? How can I achieve a pH of 5.5?

I need advice on ingredient compatibility, texture formation (especially for the serum), achieving the target pH, and any missing components like preservatives.

Answer

Response to your formulations

Based on the staff's feedback:

Formulation 1 (Cream):

  1. This formula can be made, and the ingredients are compatible. However, with an oil phase around 20%, using Light Cream Maker might cause separation. The staff recommends considering Satin Cream Maker instead.
  2. A pH of 5.5 is achievable. You can adjust the pH after mixing using a mild acid or alkali.

Serum Formulation:

  1. This formula can be mixed (assuming the percentages add up to 100%). However, it is missing a preservative. The staff recommends adding Mild Preserved Eco at 1%.
  2. A pH of 5.5 should be achievable by adjusting after mixing.
  3. Please note that using SiliSolve to create this serum requires a blender to form the water-in-silicone texture. Pro Polymer will help thicken the formula but does not make the blending process easier.
