Question
My gel formulation thickened with `Carbomer` becomes liquid after I add `Active DMAE`. Why does this happen, and what can I use instead of `Carbomer` to prevent this issue?
Answer
Regarding your issue where adding Active DMAE caused the gel thickened with Carbomer to become liquid, this is normal. The reason is that DMAE is an electrolyte, and Carbomer is a gel maker that is not tolerant of electrolytes.
The solution is to use a gel maker that is tolerant of electrolytes instead of Carbomer.
Examples of electrolyte-tolerant gel makers include:
- AnyGel (Dehydroxanthan Gum)
- Pro Polymer (Acrylate Crosspolymer)
You can use these gel makers instead of Carbomer in your formulation to prevent the gel from becoming liquid when adding DMAE.
