Question

I have dark spots from picking acne. Can I use Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) to treat them? I also have a moisturizing gel formula for slightly oily skin. Could you advise on the appropriate percentages for Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B5), Pro Polymer (Gel Thickener), and Tea Tree Oil in this formula? I was considering 3% Panthenol, 2% Pro Polymer, and Tea Tree Oil.

Answer

Hello!

Based on your gel formula for moisturizing and reducing dark spots on slightly oily skin, and the feedback from the staff, here is a summary and recommendation:

Regarding your original formula:

  • Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B5): For slightly oily skin, the staff recommended reducing the amount from 3% to 2%, which should be sufficient.
  • Pro Polymer (Gel Thickener): Using 2% might result in a gel that is too thick. The staff suggested starting with 1% and adjusting if a thicker consistency is desired.
  • Tea Tree Oil: It is strongly advised not to exceed 1% usage for Tea Tree Oil, as higher concentrations can potentially cause skin irritation.

Regarding the dark spots from acne:

  • Your original formula did not include ingredients specifically targeting dark spots.
  • You asked about using Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide). While Vitamin B3 can help with dark spots, the staff specifically recommended Pumpkin Renew™, Willow Bark Extract, or FruitPeel™ as potentially more suitable ingredients for addressing dark spots resulting from acne marks.

In summary, the formula adjusted according to the staff's initial points (reducing Vitamin B5, Pro Polymer, and Tea Tree Oil percentages) would be suitable for general skin hydration and care. To specifically target the dark spots from acne, consider incorporating one of the staff's recommended ingredients (Pumpkin Renew, Willow Bark Extract, or FruitPeel) into your formula.
