Question

Could you provide a formula using AHA to exfoliate cracked heels, similar to the "Spa Teen Khun Nai" treatment which removes dead skin cells?

Answer

Gentle Exfoliating Formula for Cracked Heels

To create a formula for exfoliating cracked heels similar to a spa treatment, you can use gentle exfoliating ingredients that work like AHA but are less irritating.

Two suitable options are FruitPeel™ and Pumpkin Renew™.

  • FruitPeel™ is an extract blend from olive, mango, and banana peels. It gently promotes skin cell turnover and helps improve skin texture, making it softer and brighter. It is recommended for use at 1-5% (3% is a good starting point) in water-based formulas with a pH between 3.5-7.0. Avoid heating above 40°C.

  • Pumpkin Renew™ is a pumpkin extract that also accelerates skin cell turnover gently. At 5% concentration, its exfoliating effect is comparable to 4% Glycolic Acid, but it is much milder. It can be used at 1-10% (3-5% for daily use, 10% for occasional intense exfoliation) in water-based formulas with a pH between 4.5-7.0. Avoid heating above 60°C.

Simple Formula Idea (Water-based Gel/Lotion):

  1. Start with a water phase containing water, a gelling agent (like Carbomer or a natural gum), and humectants (like Glycerin).
  2. Add FruitPeel™ (e.g., 3%) or Pumpkin Renew™ (e.g., 5-10%) to the water phase after cooling down below the maximum recommended temperature.
  3. Add a preservative.
  4. Adjust the pH to the recommended range (3.5-7.0 for FruitPeel™, 4.5-7.0 for Pumpkin Renew™) using a pH adjuster (like Sodium Hydroxide solution).
  5. Optionally, add soothing ingredients (like Aloe Vera extract) or moisturizers (like a light oil or shea butter if making a lotion) suitable for cracked heels.

Apply this formula to the cracked heel area regularly to help gently exfoliate the dead skin cells and improve the skin's texture over time. Remember to always patch test first and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
