Glitter Body Oil Formula

Here is a basic guideline for making a glitter body oil, suitable for adding sparkle for events or sun exposure. This formula uses oil as the base, a gelling agent to help suspend the glitter, and mica powder for the sparkle effect.

Basic Formula Guideline:

• Base Oil: 90-95%
  • Choose a light oil that absorbs well, such as Mineral Oil Light.
• Suspending Agent: 5-10%
  • An oil gelling agent helps prevent the glitter from settling at the bottom. Hectorite Gel (Isononyl Isononanoate Base) or Isopropyl Myristate Gel (Thixotropic) are good options.
• Gold Mica/Glitter: 1-5% (Adjust percentage based on desired sparkle intensity)

Instructions:

1. Weigh the base oil and the suspending agent into a container.
2. Mix well until the suspending agent is fully dispersed and the oil starts to thicken slightly.
3. Gradually add the gold mica/glitter powder while stirring continuously until it is evenly dispersed throughout the oil.
4. Pour into a suitable bottle.

Choosing the Right Gold Colorant (Mica vs. Shimmer):

The colorants you are referring to are generally called Mica Powder or Pearlescent Pigments. They are derived from natural mica minerals coated with pigments to create various colors and effects.

The difference between "shimmer" and "glitter" effect comes from the particle size of the mica powder:

• Shimmer: Mica with smaller particle sizes (around 30 microns, like Light Gold Pearl Mica) gives a subtle sheen or pearl effect.
• Glitter/Sparkle: Mica with larger particle sizes (typically 60 microns and above, such as Size B, C, or D) provides a more noticeable sparkle and glitter effect.

For a glitter oil intended for events or sun exposure where you want a prominent sparkle, you should choose gold mica with a larger particle size. Options like Gold Glitter Mica (Size B, 60 Micron), Gold Glitter Mica (Size B, 80 Micron), Bronze Gold Glitter Mica (Size B, 60 Micron), or Bright Gold Mica bright gold (size D) would be suitable to achieve a glittery look.

Adjust the percentage of mica used to get the desired level of sparkle. Start with a lower percentage and add more if needed.

Remember to perform a small patch test before applying the finished product to a large area of skin.
