Guide to Using Oilsify 15 and Oilsify 30 in Cleansing Oil Formulas

Oilsify 15 and Oilsify 30 are both oil-emulsifiers specifically designed for use in cleansing oils. Their primary function is to effectively lift makeup from the skin and allow it to be easily rinsed away with water. Both products are gentle and do not irritate the eyes, making them suitable for eye makeup remover formulations.

Key Differences

The main difference lies in their chemical composition (INCI Name) and some characteristics:

• Oilsify 15: INCI Name is POE(20) Glyceryl Triisostearate. It has a shelf life of 3 years. The description also provides an example of a microemulsion cleanser formula using a higher concentration (30%).
• Oilsify 30: INCI Name is Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate. It has a natural smell and a shelf life of 2 years.

Both are soluble in oil (preferably non-polar) and water. They are semi-water-semi-oily liquids that can thicken if stored in a cool place.

Usage in Cleansing Oil

Both Oilsify 15 and Oilsify 30 function similarly in a basic cleansing oil formula, which typically consists of the emulsifier mixed with one or more types of oil.

Basic Cleansing Oil Formula Example:

• Oilsify 15 or Oilsify 30: 8-15% (Oilsify 15 can be used up to 20%, Oilsify 30 up to 30% in general, but 8-15% is recommended for basic cleansing oil)
• Oil (e.g., LipidSoft™ Palm): Approximately 84.8%
• Preservative (e.g., Phenoxyethanol): 0.2%

Mixing Process: Simply mix all ingredients together in one step.

How to Use: Massage the cleansing oil onto dry skin thoroughly. Then, add a little water to emulsify the oil (it will turn milky) and continue massaging. Finally, rinse off with water.

Formula Variations:

• You can use Butylene Glycol in the formula to help reduce the overall oil content while still assisting in makeup removal.
• The formula can be transformed into a cleansing oil cream or gel by adding an oil gellant like Oil Thick™ Soft (around 5%).
