Question
I am looking for a way to color my perfume to a pale pink shade. Since the formulation is alcohol-based, I have the following questions:
- What type of dye should I use to ensure it dissolves correctly in alcohol without precipitation?
- Are there any specific product recommendations for achieving this color?
- What are the technical tips for mixing the dye to get a very light, pale intensity?
Answer
To color a perfume (which is alcohol-based) a pale pink, you need a dye that is alcohol-soluble or solvent-soluble. Water-soluble dyes will not dissolve properly and may precipitate in the high-alcohol base.
We recommend using a solvent-soluble red dye at a very low concentration to achieve a pale pink shade.
Recommended Product:
- Solvent Red 48 (D&C Red 27, Oil/Solvent Soluble) (ID: 35145)
Usage Tip: Start with a very small amount, as solvent dyes are highly concentrated. Dissolve the dye in a small amount of the perfume alcohol first, then add this colored solution to the rest of your perfume base until the desired pale pink color is achieved.
