How to dissolve Zinc Ricinoleate (Pellet)

Zinc Ricinoleate (Pellet) is a 100% pure active ingredient that can be challenging to dissolve if the temperature or the medium is not appropriate. Here are the recommended methods for successful incorporation:

1. Dissolving in the Oil Phase (Recommended for Creams, Lotions, and Sticks)

Zinc Ricinoleate (Pellet) has a high melting point (approximately 70-80°C).

• Method: Mix the pellets into the oil phase of your formulation.
• Temperature: Heat the oil phase to 80°C while stirring continuously until the pellets are completely melted and the oil is clear.
• Note: If the temperature is only 40-60°C, the pellets will not melt and will remain as particles in the formula.

2. Using in Water-Based Formulations

Pure Zinc Ricinoleate pellets are not directly soluble in water. They are oil-soluble and require high heat to melt.

• If you are making a water-based product (like a spray or clear gel), it is very difficult to use the pellet form because it requires high concentrations of surfactants and specific solubilizers to keep it stable in water.
• Recommendation: For water-based formulas, it is highly recommended to use the liquid versions which are already pre-solubilized and easy to mix into water at room temperature or with mild heating.

Recommended Liquid Alternatives for Water-Based Products:

• Zinc Ricinoleate A30 (30% Solution): A liquid version that is easier to incorporate into various systems.
• Zinc Ricinoleate GP25 (25% Water-Based Solution): Specifically designed for water-based formulations, providing a clear solution.
• Zinc Ricinoleate ZR-LD (25% Surfactant Base): Suitable for use in surfactant-based products like body washes or shampoos.

• If it won't melt in oil: Increase the heat to 80°C.
