How to Make Herbal Mosquito Repellent Gel

To make an herbal mosquito repellent gel, you can combine natural insect repellent ingredients with a gelling agent.

Recommended Insect Repellent Ingredients:

• Euca-Kill™ (e.q. Citriodiol): An extract from Lemon Eucalyptus Oil, highly effective at repelling mosquitoes, safe, and has a mild scent. Usage rate: 12-15% for 2-3 hours of protection, 25-30% for 5-6 hours of protection. (Can be used with 12H Fix™ to extend duration up to 8-12 hours).
• Grapefruit Oil (Standardized For Insect Repellent): A special type of grapefruit oil with high (+)nootkatone, repels insects more effectively than DEET. Usage rate: 5% for approximately 5 hours of protection, 10% for approximately 7 hours of protection. (Can be used with Waterguard Spray for longer lasting effect).
• Ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate (IR3535): A synthetic ingredient, but with high safety. It is directly soluble in water, easy to use, and has no disturbing smell. Usage rate: 7-30%.

Gelling Agent:

• AnyGel™: A water gelling agent suitable for water-based formulas. It has special properties, resistant to acid, alkali, and electrolytes. The gel texture is non-greasy and absorbs quickly. Usage rate: 1-2.5%.

Steps to Make the Gel:

1. Prepare the gel base: Mix AnyGel™ in clean water according to the desired ratio (e.g., 1-2.5%). Stir or blend until AnyGel™ dissolves and forms a gel texture.
2. Prepare the insect repellent ingredient:
   • If using Euca-Kill™ or Grapefruit Oil, which dissolve in Glycol, Alcohol, or oil, dissolve the repellent in a suitable solvent first (e.g., Dipropylene Glycol or Alcohol).
   • If using Ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate (IR3535), which is water-soluble, mix it with a small amount of water before combining with the gel base.
3. Combine: Gradually add the prepared insect repellent mixture into the gel base from step 1. Stir until well combined.
4. Adjust texture (if needed): If the gel is too thick or thin, you can adjust the amount of AnyGel™.
5. Add preservative: It is necessary to add a preservative to cosmetic products to prevent microbial growth.
6. Package: Package the resulting gel in a suitable container.
