I have a few questions regarding ingredient usage in my formulations:
- I am using two products, both containing
azelaic acid 10%. I apply the first product, followed by the second product. Does this mean the total concentration becomes 20%? - If I buy
BHA Time Release5 grams and mix it with a 120-gram tester base, what will be the resulting concentration? (Note: I am aware this ingredient is not compatible with hyaluronic acid). - I accidentally used
lemon peel biofermentmore than 3%, using the whole tube. I haven't dared to use the product yet. Should I dilute it with plain water?

Regarding your questions:
- Azelaic acid: Applying two products with 10% azelaic acid one after another does not result in a 20% concentration. The concentration of each product remains 10%. However, applying both means you are applying a larger total amount of azelaic acid to your skin. If this total amount exceeds the recommended daily dose, it could potentially increase the risk of side effects or irritation, even though the concentration in each product is 10%.
- BHA Time Release concentration: If you mix 5g of BHA Time Release with 120g of a tester base, the total weight of the mixture is 5g + 120g = 125g. The concentration of BHA in this mixture would be (5g / 125g) * 100% = 4%. As mentioned previously, be mindful of its compatibility, especially with hyaluronic acid.
- Lemon Peel Bioferment: Putting more than the recommended 3% of Lemon Peel Bioferment into your formulation increases the concentration above the suggested level. While it may not be inherently dangerous, using a higher concentration significantly increases the risk of skin irritation. If you are concerned about potential irritation, diluting the mixture with water or another suitable base is a good idea to bring the concentration down to a safer level, ideally 3% or less.
