Question

I am allergic to Vitamin E (it causes breakouts). I am interested in Vitamin C L-ascorbic 15%. If I exclude Vitamin E, will the effectiveness be significantly reduced?

I have very oily skin with wrinkles, melasma, freckles, and dark spots. Could you recommend suitable ready-to-use ingredients for a comprehensive formula?

Answer

Based on your skin concerns (oily skin, wrinkles, melasma, freckles, dark spots) and your allergy to Vitamin E, here are the recommendations from the staff:

Regarding your question about L-ascorbic acid 15% and excluding Vitamin E:

  • Since you are allergic to Vitamin E, the Vitamin C E Ferulic formula is not suitable for you.
  • The staff recommends using Vitamin C Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate instead of L-Ascorbic Acid. A formula with 10% Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate in a gel base is suggested, but the pH needs to be adjusted to around 6.5.

For your skin concerns, the staff recommends starting step-by-step to avoid stickiness or irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

  • Base: Aloe Vera Gel is recommended as a base.

  • For Melasma, Freckles, Dark Spots:

    • Step 1: Combine Vitamin B3, N-Acetyl D Glucosamine, and Alpha Arbutin.
    • Step 2: Add Vitamin C Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate.
  • For Wrinkles:

    • Step 1: Combine Centella Asiatica extract, Matrixyl 3000, and Argireline.
    • For quick, temporary tightening effects (does not address the root cause): Pepha-Tight.
    • If budget allows: Apple Stem Cell.
    • Step 2: You can upgrade peptides to more potent ones like Snap-8.

The staff suggests making two separate gels: one for melasma/dark spots and another for wrinkles. You can apply them sequentially. Combining all ingredients into one formula might result in a gel that is too thick.

Finally, for melasma, freckles, and dark spots, applying sunscreen is crucial.
