Inquiry about Ingredient Availability, Properties, and Alternatives
คำถาม
I would like to inquire about the following ingredients:
Isopropyl Palmitate (IPP)Isopropyl myristateCetostearyl alcoholGydant (DMDM Hydantion)Stearic acid
Are these ingredients available? What are their properties and recommended uses? Are there any alternative ingredients available?

Ingredient Alternatives Available
Here are the available alternatives or equivalents for the ingredients you inquired about:
Isopropyl Palmitate (IPP) and Isopropyl myristate: These esters are not available as they can potentially cause skin irritation and clog pores. You can consider other types of esters available, such as:
- Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate: A heavy texture oil with good gloss, suitable for lip products and creams needing shine and long-lasting feel.
- Jojoba Ester (Water-Soluble): A water-soluble moisturizer suitable for water-based formulas.
- Isocetyl Stearoyl Stearate: A highly polarized emollient ester with a heavy texture and good dispersion, often used in makeup and sunscreens.
- Triisostearin: An easily spreadable but heavy ester that provides good skin coating.
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate Gel: An oil gel base suitable for various formulas like makeup, massage gels, or lip balms.
Cetostearyl alcohol: This is the same as Cetearyl Alcohol. We have two types available:
- Cetearyl Alcohol (50/50, e.q. Lanette O): A mix of 50% Cetyl Alcohol and 50% Stearyl Alcohol. It acts as a thickener and emollient.
- Cetearyl Alcohol (30/70, eq. Lanette D): A mix of 30% Cetyl Alcohol and 70% Stearyl Alcohol. It also functions as a thickener and emollient.
Both types help increase cream texture and thickness but can cause a white cast. They should be mixed in the oil phase by heating.
Gydant (DMDM Hydantoin): This preservative is not available because it is a formaldehyde donor. We recommend using other types of broad-spectrum preservatives, such as:
- NaturePreserve Ultra (Gluconolactone & Sodium Benzoate): A 100% natural preservative effective against bacteria, fungi, and yeast in a pH range of 3-6.
- Ethylhexylglycerin: A gentle preservative and humectant. It is not suitable for use alone and should be combined with other preservatives.
- Mild Preserved COS (Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Caprylyl Glycol): A broad-spectrum, water-soluble preservative effective in a wide pH range of 2-8.
- NaturePreserve LB2 (Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Water): An antibacterial agent effective against bacteria and fungi at low pH values (2.0-6.5).
Stearic acid: This fatty acid is available and commonly used in creams and lotions. We have several options with varying Stearic and Palmitic acid ratios:
- Stearic Acid (Stearic: 39-45%, Palmitic: 53-60%)
- Stearic Acid (Stearic: 50-56%, Palmitic: 41-50%)
- Stearic Acid (Stearic: 47-54%, Palmitic: 43-51%)
Stearic acid should be dissolved in the oil phase.
Please choose the alternatives that best suit your formulation needs.
