Answer
Whitening and Anti-Aging Lotion Formulation (1 kg)
Here are the ingredients and suggested amounts in grams for a 1 kg batch:
- Water: 795 g
- Light Cream Maker: 15 g (1.5%) - Emulsifier and thickener
- Phenoxyethanol: 10 g (1.0%) - Preservative
- Alpha Arbutin: 20 g (2.0%) - Whitening active
- Beta Glucan: 30 g (3.0%) - Anti-aging, soothing active
- Rose Hip Oil: 100 g (10.0%) - Oil phase, anti-aging benefits
- Ethyl Ascorbic Acid: 30 g (3.0%) - Whitening, anti-aging active
Total: 1000 g
Mixing Instructions
This formulation uses Light Cream Maker, which is a cold-process emulsifier, simplifying the process.
- Water Phase: In a container, combine the Water, Phenoxyethanol, Beta Glucan, and Ethyl Ascorbic Acid. Stir gently until all powders are dissolved and liquids are dispersed. Ensure the temperature is below 50°C.
- Oil Phase: In a separate container, combine the Rose Hip Oil. Add the Light Cream Maker to the oil phase and stir to combine.
- Emulsification: Slowly add the Oil Phase (containing Light Cream Maker) to the Water Phase while stirring or blending continuously. Continue mixing until a smooth, uniform lotion is formed.
- Add Alpha Arbutin: Once the lotion has cooled down to below 30°C, add the Alpha Arbutin powder. Stir or blend until completely dissolved.
- Final Check: Check the pH of the lotion. The optimal pH range for the actives in this formula (Alpha Arbutin, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Beta Glucan) is approximately 5.0-6.0. If needed, adjust the pH using a small amount of a suitable acid (like Lactic Acid) or base (like Triethanolamine) solution.
- Packaging: Once the pH is adjusted and the lotion is uniform, package it in a suitable container.
Important Notes:
- Always use clean and sanitized equipment.
- Measure ingredients accurately using a scale.
- For best stability of Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, it is recommended to include 0.2% Disodium EDTA in the water phase (not included in the formula above as it wasn't on your list, but consider adding it).
- Avoid using Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) or Zinc PCA in the same formula as Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, as this can cause compatibility issues.
- Store the finished lotion in a cool, dark place.
This formulation provides a good starting point for a whitening and anti-aging lotion suitable for beginners, addressing the compatibility issues of the ingredients you initially mentioned.
