Question
I want to make a lip balm for dark lips using Safe-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide) and WhiteCumin™ 2x (Tetrahydrocurcuminoids).
Could you advise on the recommended usage percentage for each ingredient?
Also, how should I adjust the base formula (specifically, which parts of the base should I reduce) to incorporate these ingredients while keeping the total percentage at 100%?
Answer
Making Lip Balm for Dark Lips with Safe-B3™ and WhiteCumin™ 2x
Hello! Regarding making a lip balm for dark lips using Safe-B3™ and WhiteCumin™ 2x:
Recommended Usage Rates:
- Safe-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide): Recommended usage is around 5% (can be used in the range of 1-10%).
- WhiteCumin™ 2x (Turmeric Extract): Recommended usage is around 2.5-3.0% (can be used in the range of 1-4%).
Adjusting the Base Formula:
- Both Safe-B3™ and WhiteCumin™ 2x are water-soluble ingredients.
- The original lip balm base formula previously recommended by the staff (Polyethylene Wax, Glossy Wax, Fractionated Coconut Oil) is primarily composed of oils and waxes and does not contain water. Therefore, you cannot directly add water-soluble ingredients to this formula.
- If you wish to use water-soluble ingredients in a lip balm, you need a base that also contains water. Creating a stable lip balm with both water and oil phases is more complex and typically requires an emulsifier.
- As the staff previously suggested, you can explore examples of bases that can incorporate water-soluble ingredients, such as Water Balm™.
- Therefore, you cannot simply reduce the wax or oil components in the original base formula to add the water-soluble Safe-B3™ and WhiteCumin™ 2x. If you want to use the original water-free base formula, you would need to choose oil-soluble active ingredients instead.
In summary, Safe-B3™ and WhiteCumin™ 2x are water-soluble and cannot be added to the original oil/wax lip balm base. You would need a base that contains water.
