Making Gac Fruit Serum or Essence

You have successfully created a Gac fruit extract using Propylene Glycol and can use this to make your own serum or essence. To do this, you will need a suitable serum base.

Two excellent bases available are:

• Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye): This base provides a light, smooth, and fast-absorbing texture.
• Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base: This base is ideal for adding moisture with a light gel feel.

How to Incorporate Your Extract:

Your Gac fruit extract is already dissolved in Propylene Glycol, which acts as a solvent and humectant. Propylene Glycol can be used in cosmetic formulas typically between 1-20%, and up to 50%. When formulating your serum, consider the amount of Propylene Glycol already in your extract and ensure the total amount in your final serum is within a safe and effective range.

General Mixing Steps:

1. Choose your base: Select either the Silky Serum Base or the Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base.
2. Combine Ingredients:
   • If using Silky Serum Base: Mix your Gac fruit extract (in Propylene Glycol) and any other water-soluble ingredients with the water you plan to use. Gradually add this mixture to the Silky Serum Base while stirring continuously until a uniform serum forms. Adding 1% Magnesium Sulfate or 1% pure salt (NaCl) dissolved in the water phase can help stabilize the formula.
   • If using Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base: Simply add your Gac fruit extract (in Propylene Glycol) and any other water-soluble ingredients directly to the gel base and stir until everything is well combined.
3. Add Preservative: It is essential to add a broad-spectrum cosmetic preservative to your serum, as it contains water. Follow the supplier's recommended usage rate for the preservative you choose.
4. Optional Actives: You can include other water-soluble active ingredients like additional hyaluronic acid, vitamins, or botanical extracts to customize your serum.

A simple starting point for a formula could be:

• Serum Base (Silky Serum Base or Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base): 70-90%
• Your Gac Fruit Extract in Propylene Glycol: 5-15% (adjust based on your extract's concentration)
• Water (if needed, especially with Silky Serum Base): adjust to achieve desired consistency
• Preservative: follow recommended usage rate
• Other water-soluble ingredients: 0-10%

Always mix thoroughly after adding each component. Starting with a small test batch is recommended.
