Question
How can Melatonin be mixed into base creams or ready-made bases, considering its different forms and stability requirements?
Answer
Melatonin can be mixed into base creams or ready-made bases. There are two main forms of Melatonin that can be used:
- Pure-Melatonin™ (Powder Form): This is a white powder soluble in some oils and certain glycols (e.g., ethoxydiglycol, 1,3-Propanediol). It is suitable for mixing into bases that contain compatible oils or glycols.
- Melatonin Forte™ (Liquid Form): This is a clear, oily, yellow liquid with a Melatonin concentration of not less than 10%. It is water-soluble and dispersible in oil, making it easier to mix into various bases, including water-based or emulsion (cream/lotion) bases.
Mixing Recommendations:
- Melatonin should be mixed in the final step of the formulation process.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to air.
- The pH of the formula should be in the range of 4-10.
- Very Important Precaution: Melatonin is sensitive to air. Finished products containing Melatonin must be protected from air, for example, by packaging in a vacuum tube or airless container. Avoid packaging in jars where the formula is continuously exposed to air, as this can easily degrade Melatonin.
In summary, Melatonin can be mixed into base creams or ready-made bases, but you should choose the form of Melatonin appropriate for the base type and pay close attention to the mixing method and packaging to maintain the quality of Melatonin.
