Micelle Cleansing Water Formulation & Using Argan Oil in Cream
Question
I have two questions regarding cosmetic formulations:
Micelle Cleansing Water Formula: I plan to make a Micelle Cleansing Water with the following formula:
- MakeUp-Wash™ 7%
- Emollient: Glycerin 5%
- Phenoxyethanol SA 1%
- Licorice Extract (Licochalcone A) 0.5%
- Tea Tree Oil (Australian - Water Soluble) 2%
- Water [rest] 84.5%
Is this formula suitable, and is the mixing order correct if I mix 1, 2, 4, and 5 into the water first, followed by 3 (Phenoxyethanol SA) last?
Argan Oil in Body Cream: I am interested in using Argan Oil (Organic - Virgin - Deodorized) to make a body cream with other ingredients. Can it be mixed with other ingredients to become a cream texture, or is it sufficient to use it alone? I want to focus on moisturizing and brightening benefits for dry skin from working in an air-conditioned room.
Answer
Hello,
Regarding your questions about the Micelle Cleansing Water formula and Argan Oil:
Micelle Cleansing Water Formula:
- Your proposed formula is a good starting point.
- For the MakeUp-Wash™ (PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides), we recommend starting at 3% instead of 7%. This concentration is usually sufficient for effective cleansing. You can increase it later if needed.
- The other ingredients (Glycerin, Licorice Extract, Tea Tree Oil, Phenoxyethanol SA) and their percentages seem appropriate for your goals (cleansing waterproof makeup, addressing acne concerns).
Mixing Method:
- Your proposed mixing order (adding ingredients 1, 2, 4, 5 to water first, then 3 last) is generally correct.
- Please note that the preservative (Phenoxyethanol SA, ingredient 3) does not strictly need to be added last; it can be mixed into the water at any step.
Argan Oil (Organic - Virgin - Deodorized):
- Yes, Argan Oil can be used directly on the skin or incorporated into a cream formulation with other ingredients.
- It is excellent for moisturizing and helping with dry skin, which is suitable for your need when working in an air-conditioned environment.
- However, please note that Argan Oil does not provide skin brightening benefits.
We hope this helps with your DIY projects!
