Question

I made a gel formulation with Chamomile Water 94%, Xanthan Gum 1%, and Glycerine 5%. After 10 days, a thin white film appeared in the gel. What could be the cause of this?

Answer

The thin white film observed in your gel after 10 days is likely due to microbial contamination, such as bacteria or mold.

Your formulation contains a very high percentage of water (94% Chamomile Water) and does not include a preservative. Water-based products without adequate preservation are highly susceptible to microbial growth, especially over time.

To prevent this issue in the future, you should add a suitable broad-spectrum preservative to your formulation.

We recommend discarding the current batch as it is contaminated.
