Mixing 17D Hyaluronic Acid with Silky Serum Base for 2% Active HA Serum

To create a stable blend of 17D Hyaluronic Acid with the Silky Serum Base to achieve a 2% active HA content, follow these steps:

Recommended Mixing Method

1. Prepare the 17D Hyaluronic Acid: 17D Hyaluronic Acid is a gel that can be mixed directly into water-based formulas. For faster dissolution, it is recommended to soak it at a low temperature before mixing.
2. Combine with Silky Serum Base: The Silky Serum Base is designed to be mixed with water and water-soluble ingredients. Since 17D Hyaluronic Acid is water-soluble, it should be incorporated into the water phase of your formulation.
3. Gradual Addition (Manual Mixing):
   • Begin by adding the calculated amount of 17D Hyaluronic Acid (18-20% of the total formula) to the Silky Serum Base.
   • Add the 17D Hyaluronic Acid incrementally, a little at a time, to the Silky Serum Base.
   • Stir thoroughly after each addition until fully incorporated before adding more. This gradual method is crucial to help the base form a stable serum texture and prevent clumping or separation.
4. Blender Method (For Faster Mixing): If you have access to a blender, you can add the entire amount of 17D Hyaluronic Acid to the Silky Serum Base at once. Blend for 5-10 minutes at a minimum speed of 500 rpm until a homogeneous serum texture is achieved.
5. Ensure pH Compatibility: The final formula should have a pH value in the range of 3-9, which is compatible with 17D Hyaluronic Acid.
6. Enhance Stability: To further increase the stability of your blend and prevent layer separation, we highly recommend adding 1% Magnesium Sulfate (or 1% NaCl, pure salt) to the formula. Incorporate this in the final step by blending until it is completely dissolved and combined with the serum.
7. Preservation: Since you are mixing a base with an active ingredient, if the final product will contain water, it is essential to add a suitable preservative to ensure its shelf life and safety.

By following these steps, you can effectively combine 17D Hyaluronic Acid with the Silky Serum Base to create a stable and effective serum.

Important Considerations:

• No Oils: The Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye) cannot bind oils. If your formulation includes oils, you should use our Silky Serum Base Plus (Face/Eye, Oil) instead.
• Viscosity Control: The final viscosity of your serum will depend on the proportion of the Silky Serum Base, 17D Hyaluronic Acid, and any additional water or diluents like Cyclomethicone or Dimethicone if you desire a more liquid texture. Increasing the water proportion can make the serum thicker.
• Storage: For long-term storage of 17D Hyaluronic Acid, keep it in the refrigerator, away from sunlight and heat. The Silky Serum Base should be stored at temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and away from direct sunlight.
