Question
Can CysWhite™ (Cysteamine HCL) be mixed directly into Cica Sleeping Mask Base (a ready-to-use leave-on base), and what additional ingredients are needed?
Answer
Mixing CysWhite™ (Cysteamine HCL) with Cica Sleeping Mask Base
Mixing CysWhite™ (Cysteamine HCL) into the Cica Sleeping Mask Base is not recommended for a typical leave-on sleeping mask application.
Here's why:
- CysWhite™ Usage: CysWhite™ (Cysteamine HCL) is generally recommended as a wash-off treatment, applied for a short duration (15-30 minutes) and then rinsed off. It is not typically used in leave-on products like sleeping masks.
- Stability: CysWhite™ has low stability when dissolved in water. The Cica Sleeping Mask Base is a water-based formula. For long shelf-life, CysWhite™ is best used in anhydrous (water-free) formulas.
- Odor: CysWhite™ has a strong, unpleasant smell (like rotten eggs) which would be very noticeable in a leave-on product.
If you were to attempt mixing it despite these recommendations, you would need to consider adding:
- ActiveProtec™ OX: Recommended to help extend the life of CysWhite™ in water-based formulas.
- Odor-Kill: Recommended at 1-2% to help absorb the strong odor.
However, even with these additives, the fundamental issue of CysWhite™ being intended as a wash-off treatment and its inherent instability in water for long-term storage remains. It is best to use CysWhite™ in a formulation specifically designed for its properties and recommended usage method.
