Mixing Natural Oils for Skincare: Compatibility and Effectiveness

Question

Hello team myskinrecipes,

I have a question about natural oils for skin nourishment. I regularly use skin nourishing oils.

I understand that there are various types of natural oils for skin nourishment, each with different benefits.

I was wondering if I take about 4 types of natural oils and mix them together in equal parts in one bottle for use.

Will the effectiveness of those oils be destroyed? For example, I plan to mix:

  • Olive oil
  • Moringa seed oil
  • Pomegranate seed oil
  • Grape seed oil

I am unsure if the vitamins and various substances in each type of oil will react with each other, or if I should only use one type of oil to get good results.

Thank you very much to the myskinrecipes team.

Answer

Mixing natural oils like olive oil, moringa seed oil, pomegranate seed oil, and grape seed oil is generally safe and can be a great way to combine their different benefits for your skin. These types of oils, often called carrier oils, are stable and don't typically react with each other in a way that would "destroy" their individual properties or cause harmful interactions between their vitamins and nutrients.

In fact, blending oils is a common practice in skincare to create a customized product that offers a wider range of fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants than a single oil might provide. Mixing them in equal parts, as you suggested, is a perfectly fine way to create your own nourishing oil blend.

You will still get the benefits from each oil in the mixture, although the concentration of each specific nutrient will be lower than if you used a single oil on its own. Whether you use a single oil or a blend depends on your personal preference and specific skin needs. A blend can offer a more comprehensive profile of benefits.

So, feel free to mix your chosen oils! It's a good way to enjoy the advantages of multiple natural oils in one convenient bottle.
