I mixed Vitamin C powder (L-Ascorbic Acid) with my lotion, and it turned watery. Why did this happen?

Also, can Vitamin C be used together with Lactic Acid?

Answer

Subject: Regarding mixing Vitamin C powder with lotion

Hello,

The reason your lotion turned watery after mixing with Vitamin C powder is likely because Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) is acidic. Many standard lotion emulsifiers are not stable at low pH levels. When the acidic Vitamin C is added, it breaks down the emulsion structure of the lotion, causing it to separate and become liquid.

It is generally difficult to restore the original texture of a lotion once the emulsion has been broken this way. For best results and stability, it is recommended to formulate products with ingredients specifically designed to be stable at the required pH for Vitamin C, or to use Vitamin C derivatives that are more stable. Please check the product details for Vitamin C powder on our website for usage limitations and recommended formulation practices.

Regarding your second question, Vitamin C and Lactic Acid can be used together. However, both are acidic ingredients, and using high concentrations or combining them might increase the risk of skin irritation. Please use caution and consider starting with lower concentrations.
