For a Powdery Feel and Lighter Texture

Adding cosmetic powders is the most effective way to introduce a powdery feel and help absorb moisture, contributing to a lighter, less greasy texture.

• Silicone Powder: Products like SiliSilk™ 1.5Micron (Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer (and) Silica) are designed to provide a very soft, smooth, and powdery feel. Since your formula already contains Cyclomethicone, SiliSilk™ is a good option as it should be dispersed in silicone before adding to the cream. Use at a rate of 1-10%.
• Silica: Anti-Caking Silica (Silicon Dioxide) is excellent for absorbing moisture and preventing powders from clumping, which helps provide a dry, powdery feel and improves the spreadability of the formula. Use at a rate of 0.1-5.0% (recommended 1-2%).
• Starches: Modified starches like Waxy Corn Starch (Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate) can also provide a soft, powdery feel and help absorb moisture.

For a Harder Texture

To increase the firmness and structure of the cream, you can incorporate solidifying agents or thickeners.

• Fatty Alcohols: Ingredients such as Cetyl Alcohol and Stearyl Alcohol are commonly used as thickeners and stabilizers in cream emulsions. They add body and can contribute to a firmer texture.
  • Cetyl Alcohol can be used at 0.5-6%. It needs to be melted in the oil phase.
  • Stearyl Alcohol acts as a thickener, stabilizer, and co-emulsifier. It can be used at 1-20% and should be melted in the oil phase.
• Waxes: Waxes like Candelilla Wax can significantly increase the hardness and viscosity of a formula. While more common in stick products, a small amount can be used in creams to add structure. Use Candelilla Wax at a rate of 1-10% by melting it in the oil phase.

How to Incorporate

You will need to adjust the percentage of the water phase in your original formula to make room for the added ingredients.

1. Select your ingredients: Choose one or two powders for the powdery feel and one fatty alcohol or wax for hardness.
2. Adjust the formula: Reduce the percentage of water to accommodate the addition of the new ingredients.
3. Mixing:
   • Melt fatty alcohols or waxes in the oil phase (which includes your Cyclomethicone and Butter Cream Maker).
   • Disperse powders in a small amount of the oil phase (especially SiliSilk™ in Cyclomethicone) before adding to the main oil phase, or add them to the finished emulsion depending on the specific powder and desired result.
   • Combine the heated oil phase with the water phase according to your Cream Maker's instructions.
   • Add other ingredients like the Anti-Sweat™ and Xanthan Gum as per your original formula.
4. Experiment: Start with lower percentages of the new ingredients (e.g., 1-3% powder, 1-5% fatty alcohol/wax) and adjust in subsequent batches until you achieve the desired hardness and powdery feel.

By carefully selecting and incorporating these ingredients, you can modify your antiperspirant cream to have the harder, lighter, and powdery texture you are looking for.
