Question
I am trying to modify a Cleansing Oil formula using Oilsify 15 and possibly Sugar Gel. What happens if I add water to this formula? Will it affect the texture and cleansing performance? Are there alternative ingredients or formulations for a water-based cleanser?
Answer
Based on the previous discussion and staff response:
- Adding water to a high-oil Cleansing Oil formula will make the texture thicker and change its characteristic, moving away from a typical Cleansing Oil. If using Sugar Gel, the resulting texture will be a thick balm. Adding a significant amount of water fundamentally changes the product type.
- Sugar Gel can emulsify oil and water but cannot handle large amounts of water. For formulas with high water content, other emulsifiers are needed, but these are not suitable for oil-based cleansers where high oil content is key for effective makeup removal. For water-based formulas, a Cleansing Water using MakeUp-Wash and coco-wash is recommended instead.
- Adding water to a Cleansing Oil formula will reduce its effectiveness. Oilsify 15 is designed for removing makeup using oil, not water.
- Oilsify 15 is effective for its intended purpose (oil-based makeup removal). If you have water in the formula and want a water-based cleanser, it is recommended to use MakeUp-Wash and coco-wash for a Cleansing Water instead of trying to replace Oilsify 15 in a modified Cleansing Oil.
