Question
I would like to modify a cosmetic formula. I would like to know how to achieve the following:
- Make the texture smoother and shinier.
- Add vitamins or nourishing substances. What is the recommended amount and method?
- Add moisturizer. Is it necessary, and how should I consider the user's skin type?
Answer
Based on the conversation with MySkinRecipes staff:
- Adding ingredients for smoothness and shine: The staff believes the original formula should already have some shine. To adjust for a smoother texture, you can add an emollient such as Cyclomethicone at 10%. This should be dissolved in the oil phase.
- Adding vitamins: You can add some nourishing substances, but the staff does not recommend adding large amounts as this can make the formula more sticky. If you wish to add, for example, Safe-B3 at 3%, you can replace the same amount of water in the formula.
- Adding moisturizers: Adding moisturizers is possible, but please consider the user's skin type. If the user has oily skin or sufficient hydration, adding extra moisturizer may not be necessary.
In summary, you can add ingredients for smoothness like Cyclomethicone and some vitamins/nourishing substances in appropriate amounts as advised by the staff.
