Modifying Oil Soap Formula for Foam and Thickness

Question

I am developing a formula using Oil Soap™ with Avocado Oil and Jojoba Oil. I have two questions about modifying the formula:

1. How can I increase the foam?
2. How can I make the texture of the Oil Soap™ thicker or more viscous?

Answer

Oil Soap Formula Modifications

Based on the formula you are using with Avocado Oil:

  • To increase the foam, you can increase the proportion of Oil Soap™ and decrease the proportion of the oils (Avocado Oil and Jojoba Oil) in your formula.
  • To make the texture thicker or more viscous, you can add Oil Thick™ Clear S. A recommended starting point is 5%. Add Oil Thick™ Clear S to the oil phase and heat to 80-90°C (or up to 100-120°C if needed) while stirring until fully dissolved. Then proceed with the rest of your original steps.

Regarding your previous questions:

  • Replacing Fractionated Coconut Oil with Olive CLEAR is possible and has a low chance of rancidity, similar to Fractionated Coconut Oil.
  • If using regular Extra Virgin Olive Oil, you should add an antioxidant like Protec™ OX. If the packaging is clear, also use Protec™ UV.
  • To make the skin feel softer and smoother, you could consider adding emollients like LipidSoft™ Palm, LipidSoft™ Lite, LipidSoft™ Moist, or LipidSoft™ Silk to the oil phase.
  • Oil Soap™ is safe for cosmetic use when used according to guidelines and can be registered with the FDA. Check the INCI name provided in the product details for registration.
  • Achieving a fully natural formula is not possible when using Oil Soap™ as it is a chemical ingredient (though partly derived from natural sources). To make essential oils last longer, consider using a fragrance fixative or encapsulated fragrance.
