Answer
Mosquito Repellent Spray Formulations
There are several effective ingredients you can use to create a mosquito repellent spray. Here are a few options based on available ingredients:
Using Euca-Kill™ (e.q. Citriodiol)
Euca-Kill™ is derived from Lemon Eucalyptus Oil and is effective at repelling mosquitoes. It can be mixed in alcohol, glycol, or oil.
Sample 5-hour Mosquito Repellent Spray Formula (Alcohol-based):
- Euca-Kill™: 25%
- Alcohol: 75%
Usage Rates for different protection durations:
- 12-15% Euca-Kill™: Protects for 2-3 hours.
- 25-30% Euca-Kill™: Protects for 6-7.75 hours. (Can be extended to 8-12 hours with a fixative like 12H Fix™)
Using Ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate (IR3535)
IR3535 is a safe, biotech-produced insect repellent that is soluble in water, making it suitable for water-based spray formulations.
Usage Rate:
- Use between 7% and 30% in your formulation.
Using Grapefruit Oil (Standardized For Insect Repellent)
This special type of Grapefruit Oil contains a high concentration of (+)nootkatone, offering high insect repellent efficiency.
Usage Rates:
- 5% Grapefruit Oil: Protects for approximately 5 hours.
- 10% Grapefruit Oil: Protects for approximately 7 hours. (Can be extended to over 12 hours with Waterguard Spray)
You can choose the ingredient and concentration that best suits your desired spray formulation and protection duration.
