Question
In a formulation using DI Water (Distilled Water), is it still necessary to include Disodium EDTA to chelate ions in the water?
Answer
When using DI (Deionized) water in a formulation, which has very few or no mineral ions, the primary reason for adding Disodium EDTA (to chelate metal ions in the water) is largely eliminated. Therefore, if DI water is the only source of potential metal ions, adding Disodium EDTA specifically for this purpose is generally not necessary. However, if other ingredients in your formula might introduce metal ions, you might still consider adding it.
