Answer

Non-SLS and Silicone-Free Shampoo Formulation and Method

Based on the provided forum post, here is a suggested formulation and the steps to make a non-SLS and silicone-free shampoo:

Ingredients:

  • Lauryl Glucoside: 10%
  • Coco Betaine: 10%
  • Guar Cationic (GuarCat™): 0.25% OR Cetrimonium Chloride (CTAC): 0.5% (Adjust the amount based on the desired level of hair conditioning/smoothness)
  • SugarThick (PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate): 1-3% (Adjust for desired thickness, or omit if the desired consistency is achieved without it)
  • Phenoxyethanol SA (Preservative): 1%
  • Distilled Water: Remaining percentage

Method:

  1. Combine Guar Cationic (or Cetrimonium Chloride) with Distilled Water and mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Gradually add Lauryl Glucoside and Coco Betaine to the mixture from step 1, stirring gently until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture is homogeneous.
  3. Gently heat the mixture to 50-60°C.
  4. Add SugarThick (if using) and stir until it dissolves completely into the warm mixture.
  5. Add Phenoxyethanol SA (preservative) and stir to combine.
  6. Let the mixture cool down before packaging.
