Answer
Non-SLS and Silicone-Free Shampoo Formulation and Method
Based on the provided forum post, here is a suggested formulation and the steps to make a non-SLS and silicone-free shampoo:
Ingredients:
- Lauryl Glucoside: 10%
- Coco Betaine: 10%
- Guar Cationic (GuarCat™): 0.25% OR Cetrimonium Chloride (CTAC): 0.5% (Adjust the amount based on the desired level of hair conditioning/smoothness)
- SugarThick (PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate): 1-3% (Adjust for desired thickness, or omit if the desired consistency is achieved without it)
- Phenoxyethanol SA (Preservative): 1%
- Distilled Water: Remaining percentage
Method:
- Combine Guar Cationic (or Cetrimonium Chloride) with Distilled Water and mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Gradually add Lauryl Glucoside and Coco Betaine to the mixture from step 1, stirring gently until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture is homogeneous.
- Gently heat the mixture to 50-60°C.
- Add SugarThick (if using) and stir until it dissolves completely into the warm mixture.
- Add Phenoxyethanol SA (preservative) and stir to combine.
- Let the mixture cool down before packaging.
