Peptide Testing: Sample Consumption and Return Policy

Question

About the Peptide testing. If I give you 1 vial, are you able to take a sample from it and give me it back? Or do I lose the complete vial?

I would be interested in a Full test. The vials contain between 5mg - 10mg.

Answer

For the Peptide Purity Analysis (HPLC, includes reference material) service, the testing process typically requires only a small portion of the material you provide.

Sample Consumption and Return

  • Required Amount: For a standard HPLC purity test, the laboratory generally needs only about 1–2 mg of the peptide to prepare the sample solution and perform the injection.
  • Sample Handling: Since your vials contain 5–10 mg, there will be a significant amount of material remaining after the test. However, the standard procedure for laboratory services is that the sample is not automatically returned to the customer. This is due to several factors:
    • Contamination Risk: Once a vial is opened in a lab environment and a portion is removed, the remaining material is no longer considered "sterile" or "pristine" for your future use.
    • Solubility Testing: In some cases, if the peptide is difficult to dissolve, more material may be used to find the correct solvent system.
    • Logistics: Returning small amounts of chemical substances requires specific handling and shipping procedures.

Recommendation

If you require the remaining material to be returned, you must contact the laboratory or customer service specifically before sending the sample to arrange for a return. Please note:

  1. The portion actually injected into the HPLC machine is consumed and cannot be recovered.
  2. The remaining powder in the vial can technically be returned, but additional shipping and handling fees may apply.
  3. If you only have one vial and need the material back, it is often safer to aliquot (split) the sample yourself and send only the required 2–3 mg to the lab, keeping the rest in your possession.

If you are looking for a "Full Test" that includes both Purity (HPLC) and Mass Identity (MS) to confirm the peptide is exactly what it claims to be, please ensure you select the appropriate service level, as purity alone only tells you how "clean" the substance is, not necessarily its identity.
