Answer
Subject: Perfume and FDA Notification (อย.)
Regarding the use of pheromones and their registration with the Thai FDA (อย.):
- Pheromones cannot be registered as standalone products with the FDA. The FDA does not accept this type of product for registration on its own.
- However, pheromones can be included as ingredients in formulations such as perfumes.
- A product containing pheromones can be registered with the FDA as a "regular perfume".
- When registering a product as a perfume, the FDA prohibits making any claims about specific properties or effects of the perfume, including any effects related to the pheromone ingredient. This is because perfume is considered a product solely for providing fragrance and is not allowed to claim other effects.
- Using pheromones as ingredients in a perfume registered in this manner (as a standard perfume without special claims) is permissible under Thai law.
