pH Compatibility of Bio-Yeast Essence with Low-pH Toner
Question
I am using Bio-Yeast Essence and plan to mix it into my Witch Hazel (Alcohol Free) Plus Allantoin toner. I noticed that the toner has a pH between 3.8-4.5, but Bio-Yeast Essence is recommended to be mixed in water with a pH range of 5-7. Will Bio-Yeast Essence still function normally if mixed directly into the low-pH toner?
Answer
Hello!
It's great to hear that your skin has improved significantly with your first serum formula, and that oiliness has decreased, even though you still have some inflammatory acne.
Regarding your plan to change the serum formula during pregnancy, the staff mentioned that the main ingredients to avoid during pregnancy are preservatives. Your proposed second serum formula, eye gel, and toner seem generally fine.
You raised an important point about the pH compatibility of Bio-Yeast Essence and the Witch Hazel (Alcohol Free) Plus Allantoin toner. You are correct that Bio-Yeast Essence works best in a pH range of 5-7, while the toner has a lower pH (3.8-4.5). Mixing them directly would cause the Bio-Yeast Essence to degrade faster.
The staff confirmed this and provided two solutions to ensure the Bio-Yeast Essence remains effective when mixed with the toner:
- Add water: Mix the toner with water to dilute it and raise the overall pH. For example, use 60% Witch Hazel, 39% Water, and 1% Bio-Yeast Essence.
- Adjust pH with alkali: Add an alkali ingredient to the mixture to raise the pH into the optimal range for Bio-Yeast Essence.
So, to use the Bio-Yeast Essence with your toner effectively, you should either dilute the toner with water or adjust the pH of the mixture using an alkali.
Hope this helps!
