Question

Could you please provide the HLB value for Polyethylene Wax?

Also, if I need a natural wax with properties similar to Polyethylene Wax, such as hardness, stability, and water resistance, which wax would you recommend, and what is its HLB value? Thank you.

Answer

Polyethylene Wax and Natural Alternatives

Polyethylene Wax is a synthetic wax primarily used for its structural properties, such as increasing hardness, providing stability, forming films, and contributing to water resistance in formulations. It is not an emulsifier, and therefore, it does not have a typical HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) value assigned to it in the way that surfactants do.

If you are looking for a natural wax with similar properties, particularly hardness, stability, and water resistance, Carnauba Wax is an excellent option. Carnauba Wax is known for being one of the hardest natural waxes and is effective in providing structure and water repellency to formulations.

Like Polyethylene Wax, Carnauba Wax is also not an emulsifier and does not have a standard HLB value.
