Question

I would like to inquire about Glycerin Gel (Glyceryl Polyacrylate).

  1. Does it require adding a preservative?
  2. If mixed with the following four ingredients, will it cause the texture to become thinner?
    • Licorice Extract (Licochalcone A 1%)
    • Ume Extract (Anti-Glycation)
    • Sea Kelp Extract
    • Prebio-care (Skin Prebiotic)

Answer

Preservative for Glycerin Gel

Glycerin Gel (Glyceryl Polyacrylate) is a gel base that is mixed with water. When you add water and other water-soluble ingredients to the formulation, it increases the chance of microbial growth. Therefore, to ensure the stability and extend the shelf life of the product, it is highly recommended to add a preservative to the formula.

Effect on Texture when Mixing with Extracts

The four ingredients you mentioned (Licorice Extract, Ume Extract, Sea Kelp Extract, and Prebio-care) are water-soluble or have liquid/gel textures. When mixed with Glycerin Gel, which is a gel base that requires mixing with water, adding these ingredients will generally dilute the overall gel structure.

The resulting texture will become thinner or more liquid depending on the concentration of the Glycerin Gel used and the total amount of the four ingredients added. The more liquid or water-soluble ingredients you add relative to the gel base, the thinner the final product texture will be.
