Question

Normally, if Pitera (Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate) is used as the main ingredient, is it unnecessary to add preservatives? If preservatives are added, will it help extend the shelf life?

Answer

It is a common misconception that using Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (Pitera) as a main ingredient eliminates the need for preservatives. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is a water-based ingredient. Any cosmetic formulation containing water is susceptible to microbial growth and must include an effective preservative system to ensure safety and stability.

Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate itself does not provide sufficient broad-spectrum preservation. Therefore, it is necessary to add a dedicated preservative to your formulation, even when using Pitera as a main ingredient.

Adding a suitable preservative will indeed help prevent contamination, ensure the product's safety throughout its intended shelf life, and effectively extend its stability compared to an unpreserved or inadequately preserved product.
