Suspending Glitter in Body/Facial Oil

To prevent glitter or mica from settling at the bottom of body or facial oils, you need to increase the viscosity of the oil phase or create a gel-like structure within the oil. This can be achieved by using oil gelling agents or thickeners.

These ingredients work by forming a network or increasing the thickness of the oil, which helps to keep the glitter particles suspended evenly throughout the product.

Some suitable oil thickeners/gelling agents include:

• Oil Thick™ Hard: Helps create an oil gel texture and prevents pigment precipitation.
• Oil Thick™ Clear S: A transparent gelling agent with thixotropic properties, good for suspending particles like glitter.
• Oil-Fix™ O: A silica-based gelling agent that helps stabilize oil formulations and can prevent settling.
• Oil Thick™ Transparent: Creates a clear, high-viscosity oil gel.
• Oil Thick™ Thixotropic: Provides a thixotropic gel texture in oil, suitable for suspending particles.

The type and size of Mica or glitter also affect how easily it stays suspended. Larger or heavier glitter particles will require a stronger gel structure or higher viscosity to remain dispersed. Using coated Mica, such as Mica Powder (20 Micron, Methicone Coated), can help with better dispersion in the oil base.

By incorporating an appropriate oil thickener, you can create an oil product where glitter remains beautifully suspended without sinking.
