Pro Polymer™ Silk Incompatibility with Thickeners and Pilling Issue
Question
My formula using Pro Polymer™ Silk (Polyquaternium-37) is causing pilling/clumping. Why is this happening, and how can I increase the viscosity of the formula?
Answer
Subject: Pilling Issue
Regarding the pilling issue with your formula, the staff has confirmed that Pro Polymer™ Silk (Polyquaternium-37) is incompatible with many common thickening and gelling agents, including Pro Polymer (Acrylate Crosspolymer), Xanthan Gum, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, and various cream makers.
Mixing Pro Polymer™ Silk with these incompatible ingredients can lead to instability in the formula, resulting in the formation of clumps or "pills" when applied, especially when layered with other products.
To increase the viscosity of a formula that uses Pro Polymer™ Silk as the primary thickener, you should only increase the concentration of Pro Polymer™ Silk itself. Avoid combining it with the incompatible thickeners mentioned.
