Question

My fragrance oil from Hong Huat separates when mixed with Reed Diffuser Base Type 1. I want to avoid using Ethyl Alcohol.

Will switching to Reed Diffuser Base Type 2 prevent separation without needing alcohol?

Answer

Reed Diffuser Base and Fragrance Oil Compatibility

Regarding your question about avoiding alcohol when using fragrance oil from Hong Huat with our diffuser base, here is the information:

Some fragrance oils, particularly those from other suppliers, may not be fully miscible with our Reed Diffuser Base Type 1, leading to separation as you experienced. The standard recommendation to resolve this with Type 1 base is to pre-mix the fragrance oil with Ethyl Alcohol before adding it to the diffuser base.

Switching to Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2) might improve compatibility with some fragrance oils compared to Type 1, potentially reducing the need for alcohol. However, it is important to note that even with Type 2, certain fragrance oils may still require pre-mixing with Ethyl Alcohol to achieve a clear and stable solution.

We recommend trying to mix your fragrance oil with Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2) first. If separation or cloudiness still occurs and you wish to avoid alcohol, it might not be possible with that specific fragrance oil, and the method of pre-mixing with Ethyl Alcohol would be necessary.

Remember that Reed Diffuser Base (Type 1) is generally recommended for light fragrances, while Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2) is suitable for stronger fragrances and is more cost-effective, but Type 1 is less likely to interfere with the fragrance scent itself.
