Ingredients to Reconsider/Omit for this Formula:

• Willow Bark Extract: Since you reacted to BHA, it's best to avoid this source of salicylic acid.
• Acetyl L-Carnitine: As previously discussed, its low pH requirement can complicate formulation, especially when combining with ingredients that prefer a different pH range (like PHAs or Zinc PCA). Omit for simplicity and to maintain formula stability and gentleness.
• Sodium Lactate: While a mild exfoliant, combining it with PHAs might lead to over-exfoliation and irritation for sensitive skin. Focusing on PHAs for gentle exfoliation is likely sufficient and safer.

Formulation Considerations:

• pH Balance: Achieving the optimal pH for all these ingredients in a single formula requires careful adjustment. PHAs (Gluconolactone/Maltobionic Acid) work best at a pH of 3.4-4.5. Zinc PCA prefers 4-6. Niacinamide is stable between 3-8 (optimal 4-7). Peptides generally prefer 3.5-6.5. Alpha Arbutin is stable between 3.5-6.5. Licorice extracts are stable between 3.5-6.5. Centella Asiatica extract prefers 4-6.5. Panthenol and Hyaluronic Acid are more flexible. Aiming for a pH in the range of 4.0-5.5 would likely provide a good balance for efficacy and stability for most of these ingredients, while minimizing irritation. You will need to carefully measure and adjust the pH after adding all ingredients.
• Concentrations: Start with lower recommended concentrations for active ingredients, especially the exfoliants (PHAs) and brightening agents (Alpha Arbutin), and gradually increase if your skin tolerates it well.
