Resorcinol Solubility in LipidSoft and Adding WaterGuard to Sunscreen

Question

I have two questions regarding cosmetic formulation:

  1. Can cosmetic-grade resorcinol derivatives, such as Activated Resorcinol (4-Butyl Resorcinol), be dissolved in other types of LipidSoft besides the standard one, specifically LipidSoft Palm and LipidSoft Lite?
  2. For the sunscreen formulas available in the recipe library, can WaterGuard be added to make them water and sweat resistant? If so, how effective are the original formulas in the library regarding water and sweat resistance before adding WaterGuard?

Answer

Solubility of Resorcinol in LipidSoft

Regarding the solubility of cosmetic-grade resorcinol derivatives, such as Activated Resorcinol (4-Butyl Resorcinol), they are oil-soluble and can indeed dissolve in various types of LipidSoft, including LipidSoft Palm and LipidSoft Lite. Different types of LipidSoft primarily vary in texture and feel on the skin, but they all serve as oil phases in formulations where oil-soluble ingredients can be incorporated.

Adding WaterGuard to Sunscreen Formulas

Yes, you can add WaterGuard to sunscreen formulas from the recipe library to improve their water and sweat resistance. The effectiveness of the water resistance will depend on the concentration of WaterGuard used in the formula. However, be aware that adding a high percentage of WaterGuard can make the texture of the product feel sticky. The inherent water or sweat resistance level of the original formulas in the library is not specified; adding WaterGuard is a method to enhance this property.
