Question
Can Retinal be formulated in a Water-in-Oil (W/O) cream? Will it dissolve properly, especially considering how FloraSolve and LipidSoft Dry are used differently in W/O vs Oil-in-Water (O/W) formulations?
Answer
Based on the information provided, the proposed Water-in-Oil (W/O) cream formulation for Retinal is not recommended.
The main reason is the potential for poor dissolution of Retinal in this specific W/O system compared to an Oil-in-Water (O/W) formulation.
- In an O/W formula, Retinal can be effectively dissolved using a combination of FloraSolve and LipidSoft Dry in the oil phase.
- However, in your proposed W/O formula, FloraSolve is intended for the water phase. This leaves only LipidSoft Dry in the oil phase to dissolve the Retinal, which may not be sufficient for proper dissolution.
Therefore, sticking to an O/W system where Retinal can be dissolved with both FloraSolve and LipidSoft Dry is advised for better results.
