Question

Could you please provide a revised body lotion formula that focuses on enhancing moisture and supporting the skin barrier, while also considering the potential scent of Sea Kelp Extract? Additionally, I would like suggestions for a hypoallergenic, high-end floral fragrance (similar to Jurlique) to add to the formula, along with the appropriate usage percentage and mixing instructions, especially for a cold-process method using Satin Cream Maker™.

Answer

Revised Body Lotion Formula

Here is a revised formula incorporating suggestions for enhanced moisture and skin barrier support, while also considering the potential scent of Sea Kelp:

  • Water: 65.7%
  • Sea Kelp Extract: 1%
  • Waterlock™ (Polyquaternium-51): 1%
  • MOIST72™: 2%
  • Phenoxyethanol (Extra Pure): 0.3%
  • 1,2-Hexanediol (Super-Purified, Odorless): 3%
  • Butylene Glycol: 5%
  • Satin Cream Maker™: 1%
  • Safflower Seed Oil (Cold-Pressed): 5%
  • D-Panthenol Care (Pro-Vitamin B5): 2%
  • HYDRO-UREA® Liquid: 5%
  • Double Hyaluron Liquid: 3%
  • Glycerin (USP/Food Grade): 5%
  • Ceramide Complex (Water/Oil Dispersible Powder): 1%
  • Fragrance: 0.1-0.3% (to be added in the cooling phase)

Total: 100%

This formula aims to provide instant, non-greasy moisture suitable for normal to dry and sensitive skin.

Adding a Hypoallergenic, High-End Fragrance

For a high-end, Jurlique-like floral scent that is less likely to cause irritation, consider adding a fragrance at a low concentration (0.1-0.3%). While no fragrance is truly hypoallergenic, some options known for pleasant floral profiles include Floral Background or Awakening. Always test on a small skin area first.

Mixing Instructions

Using Satin Cream Maker™, this is a cold-process method:

  1. Prepare Phase A (Water Phase): In a clean container, combine Water, Sea Kelp Extract, Waterlock™, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, D-Panthenol Care, HYDRO-UREA® Liquid, and Glycerin. Mix gently until all ingredients are dissolved.
  2. Add Emulsifier (Phase C): Add Satin Cream Maker™ to Phase A and mix well. The mixture will start to thicken. Avoid mixing at very high speeds (above 2500 rpm).
  3. Prepare Phase B (Oil Phase): In a separate container, combine Safflower Seed Oil.
  4. Combine Phases: Slowly add Phase B (Oil Phase) to the combined Phase A and C while mixing continuously. Continue mixing until a smooth, homogeneous cream is formed.
  5. Add Cooling Phase Ingredients (Phase D): Once the cream has cooled down to below 40°C, add MOIST72™, Double Hyaluron Liquid, Ceramide Complex, Phenoxyethanol, and your chosen Fragrance.
  6. Final Mix: Mix thoroughly until all ingredients from Phase D are fully incorporated and the cream is uniform.

Pour the finished lotion into your desired container.
